While off-trade volume sales of carbonates are expected to stagnate during the forecast period, there are substantial differences in the outlooks of the regular and reduced sugar categories. The first is expected to experience substantial decline, while the latter is set to see healthy growth rates in volume terms year on year.
Cola carbonates is set to see a slight decline in volume sales in the forecast period. Although sales of reduced sugar carbonates will be healthy, they will not be sufficient to compensate fully for the decline of the regular category.
It remains to be seen whether craft-positioned carbonates will become a big success in the off-trade channel during the forecast period. These products will certainly get better visibility in on-trade outlets, as they offer good margins, but major retailers in Denmark will eventually decide whether these drinks become a hit.
