As in most Central American countries, coffee consumption in Guatemala is integrated into the regular consumption habits of a large part of the population. Guatemala is also renowned for its coffee production, which is widely available as a raw material for RTD coffee production.
Since Guatemala is a country with significant levels of coffee production, there is also a large presence of coffee shops in the country, which are generally independent businesses that seek to expand the consumption of speciality coffee among younger generations. This trend has been gaining momentum in Guatemala, accompanied by a booming coffee culture and more sophisticated preparation processes.
As Guatemala’s coffee culture grows among middle- and high-income segments, millennials and Gen Z, niche coffee products have emerged. One premium product that still has limited distribution is cold brew, which is a type of coffee that does not require an increase in temperature to create the infusion, while at the same time claiming to better preserve the natural nutrients of the coffee.
