The Spanish economy’s better-than-expected performance in 2023, along with stabilising input prices and the expectation of interest rate cuts in the second half of 2024 is fuelling expectations of a recovery in the housing market.
Reputable global brands such as Black+Decker, Bosch, Stanley and more enjoy a share of the Spanish hand and power tools categories, benefitting from their reputations for quality and durability, as well as constant innovation using recycled materials, or convenient and cost-saving all-in-one batteries. Yet, in 2023, private label gained value share in both these product categories as consumers traded down in the face of financial pressures.
While e-commerce sales of home improvement recorded dynamic growth during the pandemic years, and value share continued to rise in 2023, a return to more normal levels of consumption and habits is visible as consumers choose to visit physical stores. A number of home improvement categories are not particularly suited to online delivery.
