The market for RTDs in Slovakia is expected to see a stronger performance over the forecast period, as inflationary pressures begin to ease and households regain their purchasing power. However, a further increase in the excise tax on spirits, which is due come into effect in early 2024, will impact the prices of spirt-based RTDs.
Glass packaging is set to gain popularity during the forecast period, as players look to project a more premium image. Glass is also considered more environmentally- friendly than plastic or metal cans, while it is also perceived by consumers as having no impact on a product’s taste.
Growing levels of environmental-consciousness will have a growing impact on the market for alcoholic drinks, moving forward, and RTDs are no exception. Sustainably sourced products with natural ingredients and which are made with energy-efficient production methods to reduce carbon emissions, will increasingly gain consumers’ attention, At the same time, new EU legislation surrounding greenwashing will encourage industry players to adopt higher standards in their sustainability practices, as well as helping to shield consumers from false and misleading advertising claims.

RTDs
RTD stands for ‘ready-to-drink’. Other terms which may be used for these products are FABs, alcopops and premixes. The RTDs sector is the aggregation of malt-, wine-, spirit- and other types of premixed drinks. These drinks usually have an alcohol content of around 5% but this can reach as high as 10% ABV. Premixes containing a high percentage of alcohol of around 15%+ combined with juice or any other soft drink are included here. RTDs are usually marketed as products to be drunk neat, with ice, or as a cocktail ingredient. Fruit-flavoured, vodka-based spirits with an alcohol content of between 16-21% are classified here. Examples: Alizé, Ursus Roter, Berentzen Fruchtige, Kleiner Feigling.
