The outlook for RTDs in the UK is positive. The category is expected to remain overwhelmingly dominated by off-trade, although on-trade volume growth is expected to be more dynamic over the forecast period.
Further innovation is expected over the forecast period as demand for RTDs continues to grow, including a greater move towards premiumisation. In early 2024, Absolut and Coca-Cola collaborated to launch an Absolut Vodka Sprite RTD, while at some stage over the forecast period, Campari is expected to launch an Aperol Spritz RTD in the local market; Campari already sells a bottled Aperol RTD in the US and some other Western European countries, and the Aperol Spritz drink is already popular in the UK.
Another aspect of future development in RTDs is related to pack size and format. There has been some suggestion that growth could be driven by the launch of larger servings.

RTDs
RTD stands for ‘ready-to-drink’. Other terms which may be used for these products are FABs, alcopops and premixes. The RTDs sector is the aggregation of malt-, wine-, spirit- and other types of premixed drinks. These drinks usually have an alcohol content of around 5% but this can reach as high as 10% ABV. Premixes containing a high percentage of alcohol of around 15%+ combined with juice or any other soft drink are included here. RTDs are usually marketed as products to be drunk neat, with ice, or as a cocktail ingredient. Fruit-flavoured, vodka-based spirits with an alcohol content of between 16-21% are classified here. Examples: Alizé, Ursus Roter, Berentzen Fruchtige, Kleiner Feigling.
