Olive oil is expected to be the most dynamic performer within edible oils in retail volume growth terms over the forecast period. While this is partly because sales are still emerging from a comparatively low base, demand will also be bolstered by rising awareness of and appreciation for the healthy properties of this product type, particularly its cardiovascular benefits.
Sunflower oil will continue to dominate edible oils in Argentina over the forecast period, and is the only category other than olive oil projected to expand in volume terms. Together with traditional consumption habits, the fact that this product type is generally more affordable than others due the country’s status as one of the world’s biggest producers should ensure demand remains buoyant.
Aceitera General Deheza slipped from first to third place in edible oils in value terms in 2022 after it was overtaken by both Molinos Río de la Plata and Molino Cañuelas. Prior to this, the former company’s value share had declined steadily during the early years of the review period due to its increasing focus on export markets.
