Driven by the continued pursuit of healthier options, consumers in Hong Kong have created a surge in demand for quality, healthy edible oils. Responding to this trend, numerous premium brands have entered the market, expanding their shelf space to cater to the increasing demand for superior, health-conscious oils.
With the expectation that the travel trend in Hong Kong will continue in 2024, players in edible oils will need to adapt to the “new normal” when it comes to consumption patterns. Despite the challenges faced by foodservice due to Hong Kong consumers travelling to cities such as Shenzhen and other areas in the Greater Bay Area for more affordable prices and a wider variety of cuisine, the growth in foodservice consumption of edible oils is expected to remain steady.
Given the expected continuation of small living spaces in Hong Kong, households face limitations in terms of making bulk purchases of edible oils at discounted prices online. This constraint will reduce the motivation for consumers to shift their purchases of edible oils to online platforms in the near future.
