While overall retail volume sales of edible oils in Croatia are expected to rise over the forecast period, growth looks set to be considerably weaker than during the review period and slow consistently towards 2028. This is partly due to increasing maturity and population decline, though demand will also be inhibited as more people in the country consciously choose to reduce their consumption of meat or give it up entirely.
Olive oil is projected to remain the strongest performer within edible oils in retail volume growth terms over the forecast period. This category should be less negatively affected by falling meat consumption than others, and better placed to benefit as health concerns encourage Croatians to eat more cooked vegetables, salads etc.
Corn oil, palm oil, rapeseed oil, soy oil and other edible oils are expected to post declines in retail volume sales over the forecast period. Interest in these categories is mainly limited to a small base comprising young adults with more adventurous tastes, as most Croatians tend to be quite conservative in their edible oils preferences and either favour sunflower oil or – to a lesser extent – olive oil.

Edible Oils
This is the aggregation of olive oil and vegetable and seed oil (which comprises of corn oil, palm oil, rapeseed oil, soy oil, sunflower oil, and other edible oil). Please note blended oil that contain over 50% of one type of oil are categorised in that category, e.g. blended oil with 60% soy oil is categorised in soy oil; whereas blended oils with less than 50% of a specific type of oil are categorised in other edible oil. Includes: Pre-packaged edible oils products purchased by consumers through legally established retail channels. Excludes: Unpackaged/bulk oils, i.e. instances where consumers bring an empty container or plastic bag to be (re)filled with cooking oil. Example: Minyak curah in Indonesia.
