Retail prices of edible oil are expected to fall in the near future, as a new government policy aims to reduce the logistical costs involved in oil production. The programme ‘A Comer: Del Campo al Colmado’ is designed to provide consumers with lower prices by simplifying the distribution between producers and retailers.
New innovations are expected in edible oils over the forecast period, particularly flavoured cooking oils or those infused with certain herbs and spices. Dominican consumers are catching on quickly to these offerings and are responding favourably to those that resonate with their style of cooking.
Mercasid SA will continue to lead edible oils due to product innovation and more widespread distribution in the upcoming period. The company has extended its portfolio with oil blends combining vegetable or seed oil with olive oil, alongside the use of scented oils with essences.
