Like their Nordic neighbours, Danish consumers exhibit a strong inclination for locally-produced goods, valuing economic support for local manufacturers and perceiving their products to be of superior quality. In addition, local consumers are attracted to local goods for environmental reasons such as reduced transport emissions and greener production practices.
Uncertainties with the weather and with the economy are likely to lead to further retail volume declines in edible oils over the forecast period. Further, the growing popularity and affordability of ready meals will lead to reduced cooking from scratch at home and so reduced need for edible oils, especially given Denmark’s high living costs and locals’ increasingly busy lifestyles.
Over the forecast period, edible oils is set to see the development of more private label products, particularly in olive oil as the unit price remains high for these oils making them inaccessible to lower socioeconomic groups. Uncertain macroeconomic conditions will mean many households will continue to suffer from lower disposable incomes and will opt for cheaper products.
