The disruption of the supply of some of the main types of edible oils, most visible rapeseed oil and sunflower oil, is likely to be remedied during the forecast period. Nevertheless, the demand for alternative edible oils, such as products derived from avocado, coconut and other plant sources, is projected to continue to rise, as consumers continue to look for ways to diversify their dietary choices.
Home cooking is expected to prevail and grow as a consumer preference in the forecast period. This behaviour is likely to be reflected in the growing offer and interest in chilled ready meals and meal kits.
The development of edible oils in Ireland is likely to feature a significant increase in retail sales of private label products. This trend is set to develop in the forecast period, driven by the growth of retailer-owned brands that offer consumers cost-effective alternatives to branded products in a still tough economic climate.
