Ready meals is set to continue developing strongly during the forecast period, with robust sales growth set to flow from the efforts of key category players to expand their product ranges in effort to attract and maintain the attention of an increasingly sophisticated and demanding consumer base. In particular, the wider range of classic Turkish dishes now available is expected to benefit the category, with the proliferation of frozen versions of popular favourites such as borek, poultry-based meals, seafood-based dishes and even more exotic niche products such as sushi expected to widen the consumer base for ready meals generally, creating a sense that these products have the potential to form an important part of the diets of a substantial proportion of the local population.
Chilled ready meals is slated for a particularly strong sales performance over the forecast period and this is expected to result from the wider variety of products available in the category on the one hand and improvements in quality and presentation on the other. As the category continues to develop, the key background trends of pressure on consumer spending and subsequent declines in demand for consumer foodservice can be expected to motivate key players to develop and launch a diverse range of new products that enable consumers to recreate the on-trade experience at home with the minimum of effort and at affordable prices.
With the adverse socioeconomic situation in Turkey not expected to improve significantly until at least the middle of the forecast period, it is unlikely that the current slump in demand for consumer foodservice among the local population of Turkey will be substantially resolved before the end of the forecast period. As out-of-home consumption is currently very suppressed, there are now strong opportunities for the leading names in frozen ready meals to capture the attention of consumers on the basis that frozen ready meals represent an excellent way of combating hyperinflation as they can be purchased in bulk when prices are low and then stored in one’s freezer extended periods of time, enabling consumers to avoid overspending as prices often increase on a daily basis due to fluctuations in the exchange value of the Turkish lira against benchmark global currencies.

Meals and Soups
This is the aggregation of ready meals, pizza, food kits, prepared salads, and soup. Includes: These are products that have had recipe 'skills' added to them by the manufacturer, resulting in a high degree of readiness, completion and convenience. Food kits is an exception where typically the extent of preparation is much shorter than other meal products; includes meal kits where consumers are to put together pre-portioned ingredients and cook with the guidance of recipe cards. Ready meals are generally accepted to be complete meals that require few or no extra ingredients. However, in the case of shelf stable ready meals, the term also encompasses meal 'centres’; for food kits, they do require a degree of cooking and preparation. As such, some meals may require cooking (ready-to-cook); others may simply need reheating, prior to serving (ready-to-eat). Excludes: Any products sold unpackaged and/or by weight, including food sold from a retail deli counter.
